Film Photography

I haven't posted much lately because I'm currently taking a Photography class at Victor Valley College and we don't use Digital Cameras.  To my surprise on the first day of class, I found out that we'd be shooting on Black & White film with 35mm Cameras.  I knew it would still be a lot of fun to take and I could apply most of what I learned to digital. So I went ahead and purchased a used Canon Rebel XSN 35mm film camera for 30$ on ebay which will fit most of my current lenses I use on my Canon 50D.  We develop our own film and print in the darkroom which gives you a better appreciation for how it was before Digital.  I'm still not use to being able to look at the LCD screen to see if the picture was composed right or exposed correctly, and you only get 24 shots per roll, so you think twice before pressing the shutter.  Bellow are some examples I scanned in, we don;t print all our pictures because we don't have enough time during class, but we always print a contact sheet of our whole roll.

For Valentine's Day I gave my wife a picture I took in HDR of the AMC movie theater in Covina, CA.  On February 5th, 2000,  we went on our first date to watch "Scream 3" at this theater.  The funny thing is neither one of us like horror movies very much, but that was the cool thing to do, lol.  This is my 2nd attempt at HDR photography and I think it looks a lot better then my first, but still have a lot to improve on.

On the bottom right of the picture where they show the movie poster, I replaced the top 3 with the "Scream 3" movie poster and a 1yr old picture of each of our girls.  She didn't notice it until I pointed it out,  lol, I guess they're too small.

Mojave Narrows Park, November 2011

I first went to Mojave Narrows Park a month ago, so this was my second time.  You can see that winter is coming as all the tree's leaves are turning yellow and the grass is going dormant.  It's still nice to get out and walk around though with the family.  Next time I will plan ahead and rent a bigger lens, probably and 500mm Sigma from BorrowLenses.com to try to capture the hawks that fly too high.  Here are a few pics I took.

Moon and Venus

To the naked eye you can see the crescent moon and a glare that lets you see the full moon, but through the lens I can capture more detail.  Here's our view from the High Desert, the bright spot to the left is Venus.

Toy or Food?

Toy or Food?  let me find out!

We didn't have to worry much about Izzy putting things in her mouth that she shouldn't be when she was 1yr old, but Layla is a different story.

L.A. Photowalk / Jared Polin (froknowsphoto.com) meetup

Got to meet Jared Polin from froknowsphoto.com in LA on a photowalk this Wednesday.  I've been learning a lot from his videos this year since taking my photography hobby more serious.  The photowalk was a "500 Days of Summer" movie theme and our tour guide took us to a lot of buildings where the movie was shot, along with other movie locations as we walk to each destination.  Born and raised here in LA I have never gone to downtown for a walk, so it was a great first time and hope to do it again soon on a more photo taking quest.   This being my 2nd photowalk, I've learned that to me they are more of a networking experience to get to meet and talk to people with the same interest.  I don't feel like I can really try to capture a great photograph with so many people in the same spot also trying to take pictures and moving as a group across town.  I really do enjoy them though and look forward to joining more photowalks at driving distances :)

Here are some pics of Jared and some of LA

Mojave Narrows Park

Spent the morning of our "Sunday FunDay" at Mojave Narrows Park.  Nice place to walk around taking pics, have a picnic lunch and let the girls have fun in the playground up here in the High Desert.  Will definitely be going back and try to capture the Vultures one evening.

Pumpkin Patch 2011

Sunday morning the whole family decided we should go to a pumpkin patch.  I googled one in the high desert and found one in Hesperia, got the address from their site and took off.  We got the where the gps took us which was the correct address, but it was just a farm house in the middle of nowhere with a signed that read " Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again!"  Called the # again and finally got the knew address of where they were located.  Once we got there it was about noon and very hot and sunny, felt like Summer, but still had a good time.  Here are a few pics:
